The old
"J Bolt" system that has been used industry wide for the past 25 years
requires a precise setting to be effective, and because of the difficulty in
setting the lock after maintenance the lock is usually not repositioned or is
discarded.
The "J Bolt" system also requires a lock down lug to be fitted
inside the frame, reducing the clear opening of the unit and impeding access
into the pit below.
The Wilmac team have designed an improved fail safe locking system that is
fitted to all of our wide range of hinged and framed gratings.
The new device
is easily opened with a flat bladed screw driver, it incorporates
a spring loaded security bolt that prevents the
the grate from closing until the
lock is activated, the maintenance performer
can see immediately that the grating
is open and is in an unsafe state.
Wilmac's design also means there is no need to restrict
the clear opening of
the pit or trench with unsightly lock down brackets and access to the pit is
not impeded in any way.
